Anyone else out there find it super weird and annoying to jump on a video conference and see someone totally different from their profile picture?
I always think to myself, what’s your problem? Are you insecure about who you are? Are you pretending to be somebody you were 10 years ago? Are you hoping that you’ll never have to be seen in real life or on video so we’ll all just think you really look like that glamor shot from 1994?
For real, I’m being serious. Update your photo. Be authentic. Be confident. Stop pretending and using filters. So you’ve gained 20 pounds, it is what it is. We’re going to see you in person or on video anyway.
Here’s the thing. When your profile is completely out of date and you jump on a video call, everyone on the call has a few minutes of “weirdness”. We’re all looking at you going…huh…? Where’s Mary from the photo? Hey Mary, don’t be weird.
Then instead of talking about whatever it was we were supposed to talk about, we’re all just thinking about what you look like now compared to your photo. You’re distracting and interrupting the meeting. 😁
