Does your team have both types of people?
Look around. What do you see?
I see a constant buzz surrounding the subject of diversity and inclusion, but rarely do I see that hot topic applied to "age".
Young people bring: Vision, ideas, energy, risk, daring, adventure, cockiness, and learning skills.
Older people bring: Wisdom, experience, patience, empathy, humbleness, and teaching skills.
The best teams have a good mix of both not only on their executive leadership teams but also in the trenches. And most importantly, THEY COMMUNICATE and interact with each other.
PS. As with all recruiting and hiring, we should not be discriminating against anyone when it comes to selecting talent, even if there are diversity goals. But we should be fishing in the different types of ponds to ensure a good mix of candidates to be presented and considered.
