AGREE or DISAGREE? Here's my bold prediction on how AI will reshape your future and the workforce.
As a recruiter, staying ahead of AI, robotics, and tech changes is critical. I constantly see various predictions. Some foresee a utopia of abundance, others fear mass job loss.
I thought about this a lot during my hikes and mountain bike rides this weekend in the forest. Plenty of time to reflect. Here's a summary of the notes I put together, grouped in stages.
Stage 1: The Gold Rush Stage:
We’re in a frenzy—AI and robotics are the new gold rush. There’s excitement, little regulation, and everyone’s chasing the next big thing. It’s about speed, scale, and exploring new possibilities without much oversight.
Stage 2: The Safety and Privacy Checkpoint:
The excitement will hit a reality check: concerns about safety and privacy. This stage focuses on making robots safe and ensuring AI respects privacy, with regulations likely stepping in to address these issues.
Stage 3: The Everyday AI Revolution:
AI and robots go mainstream. Affordable humanoid robots flood the market, and AGI becomes a common personal assistant, seamlessly integrated into daily life, managing tasks from scheduling to complex decisions.
Stage 4: The Disruption Wave:
As AI and robots become ubiquitous, millions of jobs, especially repetitive ones, will disappear. This messy transition will bring fear and uncertainty as society grapples with adapting or becoming obsolete.
Stage 5: The Resistance Phase:
Job losses will spark significant pushback against AI and robotics, seen as threats to livelihoods. This will lead to protests, political pressure, and regulations aimed at protecting jobs, as society struggles to find balance.
Stage 6: The UBI Transition:
Governments will turn to Universal Basic Income (UBI) as a response to job disruption, providing a safety net to offset lost employment. While not a perfect solution, UBI aims to stabilize and create a new equilibrium in an AI-driven world.
Stage 7: The World of Abundance:
In this final stage, AI and robotics take over most tasks, allowing humans to pursue what they enjoy. Traditional jobs become hobbies, and the cost of goods drops. However, vigilance will be needed to prevent misuse of these technologies, ensuring they remain tools for good rather than threats.
Your thoughts? What do you agree or disagree with? I'm curious.
