I just read an article on Forbes about Universal Basic Income (UBI) in the age of AI and robotics, and I have some thoughts to share.
First off, implementing UBI is going to be really tough. Right now, everyone is at different levels of poverty or wealth, so figuring out how to make UBI fair without upsetting people will be a major challenge. Despite that, I think it's inevitable that we'll need UBI. AI and robotics are going to replace a lot of jobs, and many of us won't need to work in the same way we do now.
I do believe that UBI is where we're headed. After the initial mess and pain of the transition, I think we'll settle into a new kind of economy and way of life. In the long run, I think it'll be okay, but getting there is going to be quite a ride.
And regarding our "identity". Do we easily and quickly shift our "purpose" in life from work to hobbies and passion activities? Some people worry that without a job we won't have a purpose and we'll all get lazy? Thoughts? I for one have plenty of hobbies and activities and family stuff outside of work that will keep me plenty busy. 😍
What do you all think? Is UBI the future, and how do we make the transition smoother?
