If you've been in the same job for more than five years or so, there’s a good chance you're feeling pretty secure, maybe even invincible. Especially if you’ve never been laid off or fired.

Without those scars from the past, you might be unknowingly growing a bit overconfident.

Some of you reading this are feeling like the king or queen of the corporate castle. And be honest, your networking has become an afterthought.

Castles crumble. I see it all the time. Whether it’s an economic downturn, a leadership change, or company restructuring, you could find yourself suddenly on the market, unprepared for a game you haven’t played in years.

The same candidates who didn't have time for me two years ago or treated me poorly with their communication often reach out once they are laid off and want to be friends. Too late. You already pissed me off. 😍

Is your LinkedIn profile gathering dust? Do resumes seem like a tool for those "less secure" than you?

Here's some tips:

✅Keep LinkedIn Fresh: Don't just update your job title, add accomplishments and new skills regularly.
✅Stay in the Game: Networking isn’t just for job seekers. Engage regularly with peers, mentors, and recruiters.
✅Update Your Resume: Don’t wait until you need it. Keep it current—it’s easier to update over time than in a rush.

If you stay ready, you won’t have to scramble when the unexpected happens. Keep your connections alive and watch your opportunities flourish.

Final note - don't be a jerk for 6 years, then get laid off and try to make friends. 😀
